If I had to choose one word to describe Drugstore Luv, it would be yearning. A yearning for something more than what your partner can provide. Staying with someone who you love but who can’t give you what you need is so confusing and disappointing. It’s hard to realize that you deserve more and that there’s someone out there who could provide you with love that isn’t “cheap”. My favorite line in the song is “I know you think I’m pretty, but you never say it to me. Admire the dogwood downstream”. Dogwood trees are absolutely beautiful, but they have a strong scent that’s offensive to some. Therefore, they should be admired from afar. This is how I felt my partner at the time viewed me. She thought I was pretty, but she didn’t want to get too close. My favorite part of the song musically is when the drums come in at 0:40! This part reminds me of a song you’d dance to at prom.
lyrics
Jealous of that flavor
That I will never taste again
Once so sweet, tastes like concrete
Got my words all twisted up like the
Cherry stem behind your teeth
Feel it in my tone and hear it in my touch
And if things were different
Like how you said they were last week
Would you still be with me?
Drugstore love
You fell into my arms so easy
But it wasn’t made to last
Lately, I’ve been
Wishing I could buy your love from
The drugstore
Although cheap, at least I’d
Know where to get more
It feels insignificant
Once so harmonious
Let's go inside
I don’t wanna fight with you tonight
I know you think I’m pretty
But you never say it to me
Admire the dogwood downstream
Drugstore love
You fell into my arms so easy
But it wasn’t made to last
Lately, I’ve been
Wishing I could buy your love from
The drugstore
Although cheap, at least I’d
Know where to get more
