about

Bedroom Window is one of the first songs I’ve ever written! It took me so long to finally record it because it felt almost too personal to share. When I was 15, one of my best friends at the time (and my first girlfriend), left our hometown to get treatment for an eating disorder. She was gone for several months but I still came over to her apartment to help her mom with some things. We joked that her neighbors probably thought I had moved in. The verses for this song tell the reality of the situation at the time, however sad it was. The chorus is more of a daydream than what had really happened. I would think about her getting better then coming back and how we would leave this place together. Those things didn’t really happen, but it felt good to daydream about it sometimes. My favorite part of the song is the chorus because of the beautiful harmonies (1:17-1:37)! I also love that this part tells of a happy ending, even if that didn’t happen in real life.

lyrics

I miss that song you sang
Before you went to the hospital
And now I know it’ll never be heard again
I think your neighbors think I live here
I’ve been smoking off your back porch since august
Well now I know that they won’t call the cops
when they see me through your
Bedroom window
Now it’s spring and you’re in bloom
Your whole wardrobe is baby blue
I don’t know what to do
I didn’t think we’d ever move this far away
I’d make a list of anyone who’s ever
Twisted my words up and
Now oh who will trust me now?
I picture waking up next to you
On the twin bed in your old room
Now it’s spring and you’re in bloom
Your whole wardrobe is baby blue
I don’t know what to do
I didn’t think we’d ever move this far away
